As an internationally recognized artist, Jessy Nite has created an exclusive body of work that marries accessibility within her ongoing formal oeuvre. Known for her large-scale public art and private commissions, this show will feature artworks that are a distillation of previous projects, including limited edition releases and small original works based in Nite’s signature use of color and custom-made typography.
Nite will debut a limited edition series of her Sun Installations, specifically designed in a smaller version for interior display. Using light as a medium to cast shadows and reveal texts or phrases, these installations have been commissioned in large-scale outdoor formats by cities across the US and Europe, as well as global brands like Nike, Facebook, and Instagram. The indoor Sun Installations will hang alongside a new grouping of faceted paintings, which are the basis for many of her iconic public murals. Additionally, Nite created an open edition of dichroic mirror pieces featuring phrases that are both aspirational and layered in meaning.
In continuing with Nite’s most recent explorations with textile, MULTITUDES will also include a group of her tapestry pieces made from hand knotted paracord. This series investigates themes of survival, playfully juxtaposing the intended use of the material to the implied meanings of the phrases. Text such as ONLY YOU and ON AND ON touch upon survival in social settings, nature, and relationships. Nite has also included her first fully functional artwork made from paracord: a meticulously crafted hammock with the words SOON COME, that invites audiences to sit or lay for a moment of reprieve and contemplation within this multifaceted exhibition.
