Andrea Spiridonakos (b. Winsted, Connecticut) lives and works in Miami, Florida. After dancing lead roles on stages across the US and Europe as a professional ballerina, Andrea graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Fashion Design (2015). Her debut collection of hand-felted works (@Spiridonakou) sold out at NYC’s Bergdorf Goodman & was featured in their iconic windows. She has exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris) in collaboration with the Métiers d’Arts, Chanel, and has had solo shows at the Coral Gables Museum and the Miami Design District. Her artwork has been featured in & on the back cover of Assouline’s book “Miami Beach” (2020) and was juried into & selected for the cover of “Excellence In Fibers IX” for Fiber Art Now journal (Winter 2024). Andrea received part of a Knight Foundation NEW WORK grant and has designed 2023 & 2024 world premiere commissions for the Miami City Ballet. Her artwork was acquired into permanent collection at the DeYoung Museum (San Francisco).
In an analog assault on our digital age, Andrea explores hand-wrought techniques that move between fiber art and experimental design. Wild and poetic, the resulting works take you on a journey of the senses while using a natural balance of asymmetry and irregularity to create an impression of perpetual movement.
