Brian Batt / Suffolk

Brian Batt (b. 1978, Philadelphia) is partially inspired by photorealist painters such as Chuck Close and pattern-obsessed Pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein and Sigmar Polke. He blends high aesthetics and technique with low culture. Batt has appropriated the technique of gridding, applying it to reproduced images taken from the internet and vintage ephemera.. His oil on canvas paintings feature a variety of subjects, such as portraits, along with still lifes and featuring a distinct trompe l’oeil. Batt received his BFA from the Hartford Art School in Hartford, CT. He has had solo exhibitions, as well as participated in group exhibitions in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and Philadelphia. He has shown in art fairs such as Art Miami, Art Wynwood, and Superfine.
