Artwork Description /
Gustavo Oviedo is inspired by the oceans and marine ecosphere, as well as the culture of South Florida, the connecting points between landscape and identity, he conceptually and aesthetically centralizes the role nature plays in human existence. In Forms of Nature, Oviedo explores the language of nature, as well as its connections, whether culturally or geographically. The works presented in the exhibition highlight the way the artist is influenced by his environment and opens a dialogue with the audience to engage with their surroundings through symbiotic forms, gaining a new appreciation and ways of seeing the local landscape, flora and fauna.
Bio /
Gustavo Oviedo explores our deep relationship with the sea and the marine ecosphere in his large-scale public murals, short films and paintings. His work reflects his fascination with the symbiosis and collaboration in the underwater world, where fish and sea creatures incorporate found objects and make them functional in a new environment. In his short films — through both visual and sound design — he presents a dynamic community of otherworldly, undersea creatures and extraterrestrial terrain, in which the individual inhabitants each contribute to daily life. An avid diver, muralist and videographer, his art has evolved from early graffiti roots to highly colorful, graphic-oriented forms inspired by his love of the sea.
