In the tradition of minimal abstract work, Diana Paz builds her work by establishing a sense of place. Her method takes elements from her personal journey, masterfully combining shape and color as a means of translating feeling and memory.
The painting entitled Lejos, meaning distant, as well as, the altar installation it hangs alongside, is a self proclaimed love letter to her only remaining family member in Venezuela. The composition and shapes of the painting are inspired by maps, which signify migration, a void in connection. This work is also a reference to aerial landforms from a bird’s eye view and the graphic shapes within roadmaps.
Diana Paz (Maracaibo, Venezuela 1989) is a Latin-American artist based in Miami. Diana, who also goes under the moniker DE89, is a minimalist painter who mainly focuses on color and composition to create non-representational images.
