Raul Santos / Chilly Dog

Raul Santos is a Cuban American artist born and raised in Miami, FL. Santos maintains an obsession with abstraction employing an intricate series of undulating lines, often demarcated by vivid colors and bold contrast. His deliberate use of vibrant colors reflects on the artist's sense of nativism with a city visually punctuated by neon signs, club lights, and brilliant skies. Santos' line work is a base metaphor that connects places, spaces, and frames of mind.

Transitions between meditative, ecstatic, and psychedelic states occur through the simple act of moving along lines and through the fields between them. These lines become pathways in disparate topographies, mapping the artist's experience for the observer to follow. Working in mixed media, many of his wall works are made from hand cut wood, creating areas of depths almost like a portal. The paint finish is also mixed media, using acrylic and spray paint to create gradients of neutral tones with veiled colors blending in unison. Many works maintain overcoats of epoxy resin for a high gloss finish.
